A Stroll Down the River Bank....

Newland's

History

Our Story

Bill Newland started Newland's Float, Fishing, & Camping trips back in 1954. Bill came here, from the Bolivar Missouri area, to fish. It was then, he then came up with the idea for the business.

Armed only with some handmade lures, a small piece of river front property, and an agriculture degree from the University of Missouri, Bill set out to make his dream a reality.  After teaching farming to returning servicemen from World War 2, Bill and his wife eventually settled into their riverfront oasisus and started giving guided tours of nearby Bull Shoals Lake, that sprouted into Newlands Float & Fishing.

Back in the beginning, Newland's offered guests guided fishing trips and, for accommodations, Bill and the other guides would help folks set up camp on the river bank. Thanks to Bill's wife, Louise, were treated with care and concern, but, most importantly, they were treated like family and friends.  That Southern hospitality, combined with some of the best fishing in our nation, helped turn Bill Newland's vision into a good business. Then, after suffering a stroke, Bill died in 1974.  Son, Charles, then took over management of Newland's.  Louise and Charles decided to expand beyond camping trips. As they could afford it, they bought additional acreage and began adding accommodations.
